We’re excited to celebrate Halloween with a costume parade on Friday morning for students who choose to dress up!
Participation in Halloween activities is completely optional. We understand that not all students celebrate Halloween, and some may be unfamiliar with the tradition. Others may find it a fun and exciting day. Some of our students are new to Canada and may have fled countries in turmoil. Whatever your child’s experience, we want everyone to feel safe, included, and respected.
To help make this a positive experience for all, please follow these costume guidelines:
- No weapons or sharp objects (e.g. swords, knives, toy guns)
- Avoid scary or graphic costumes (e.g. dripping blood, violent imagery)
- Costumes should be safe to walk in and not pose tripping hazards
- No culturally insensitive costumes or those that portray stereotypes
- No masks or full-body suits (e.g. inflatable costumes)
- Costumes must allow for safe movement, vision, hearing, and eating
- Costumes should be easy to put on/take off and not require makeup application at school
If your child’s costume doesn’t meet these guidelines, we kindly ask that it be saved for evening celebrations. Instead, students are welcome to wear black or orange or bring a simple “backup” costume suitable for school.
Please note: We are not sharing Halloween treats at school, so we ask that families do not send treats to share.
Thank you for helping us create a safe and inclusive Halloween celebration for all our students!
